SHAREing & CAREing held their 15th Anniversary Benefit American Cancer Society Responds to Changes to USPSTF Mammography Guidelines First-of-its-Kind Collaboration Among Advocacy Groups Provides Lung Cancer Patients Personalized Information About Clinical Trials November 24, 2009 Six patient advocacy organizations recently announced their joining together for the first time on an initiative to encourage patients with lung cancer to take charge of their diagnosis and learn about clinical trials. The Lung Cancer Clinical Trial Call to Action initiative matches lung cancer patients with currently recruiting clinical trials based on their individual situations. The goal of the six groups is to encourage lung cancer patients to be empowered to take charge of their diagnosis and learn about clinical trials -- a critical part of treatment innovation. More information about clinical trials can be found at www.clinicaltrials.gov. Show your support for insurance coverage for clinical trial participation
Health care bill clears first Senate hurdle (11/21/09) WASHINGTON (AP) - Sweeping health care legislation has cleared its first hurdle in the U.S. Senate on a party-line vote. The 60-39 vote clears the way for a historic debate after Thursday's Thanksgiving holiday on the legislation. The measure is designed to extend coverage to an estimated 31 million Americans who lack it and crack down on insurance industry practices that deny benefits. The vote came in a rare Saturday session in the Senate. Democrats posted 60 votes in a Senate showdown, precisely the number needed to overcome Republican delaying tactics. The vote was a major victory for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, and the White House in a year-end drive to enact the most sweeping changes to the nation's health care system in a half-century or more.
